January 1939 was an absolute scorcher with 3 days in the top 6
January 12 1939 is the hottest according to the Bureau of Meterology at an incredible 46.1 degrees celcius.
Two days earlier it had reached our second hottest day on 10th January 1939 with 45.9 degrees.
Then it took 70 years before Adelaide reached close to that mark again. January 28 2009 the thermometer hit 45.7 degrees.
February 14 2004 it reached the 5th hottest day of 44.3 degrees and there have been three occasions where the temperature has reached 44.2 degrees.
That horror stretch in 1939 included 44.2 on the 13th January and 44 on the 9th of January.
In 1904 on the 31st December the mercury also reached 44.2, as it did on the 23rd of January 1982.
